CHeWs Dog Training first opened its doors on Wednesday, 01/02/2012, with only two classes – Puppy and Adult. Just seven months later classes rose to four.
In September 2013 CHeWs was awarded listed status by the Kennel Club enabling us to hold their Good Citizen Scheme tests. Not being able to squeeze more dogs into the existing classes, we opened three more on Mondays: Bronze, Silver and Gold.
In April 2018 we took over Cheringo daytime dog training club when the owner retired to pursue another career. Now we have 15 indoor classes year round and 3 outdoor classes in the summer. CHeWs instructors and members regularly participate in fundraising activities such as quiz nights, raffles and sponsored events.
So far CHeWs has raised £18,240.00 for The Cinnamon Trust charity and £3642.00 for other charities. The club runs outdoor Spring & Summer training sessions, a doggy Christmas Party – complete with gifts from Santa Paws – and has its own newsletter – CHeWs News.
We train for The Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme standard, using gentle but firm reward based methods. Each dog/owner partnership is supported outside class hours with telephone, email and one-to-one support if required. All of our dogs are vaccinated and microchipped. It is a condition of membership to produce up to date proof when requested. The use of check chains, shock collars, pinch/prong collars and punishment which causes pain or distress is prohibited. Class members are required to bring a grooming tool, a non-squeaky toy, a mat or blanket and a proper training lead (no retractables) to each class.
